Moving on into Proverbs 5 today. Ya still with me?
Scripture: Proverbs 5:3
For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil;
Observation:
Sin doesn’t look bad. Instead, it is quite alluring.
Application:
I don’t think Proverbs 5 is just about adultery in marriage; it is about acting against God’s direction for our lives. (Disclaimer: I am not a biblical scholar, pastor, or teacher. I am merely a reader and sharer.)
The writer of this Proverb is reminding us that sin can look mighty fine. It is wrapped in all sorts of things that look positive and good. And then it get’s ya.
I need to be aware of the steps I take and where they lead. Honey and oil can be delightful when used well.. or they can get me into big trouble.
Prayer:
Father God,
Thank you for this reminder to be on alert, to evaluate my thoughts and steps, and to be wary of things that may be alluring and entice me. Good things can look good. And evil things can look good at first, too. Help me to identify truth and deception and follow ways of integrity. Guide me back from mistakes when I make them. And thank you for your forgiveness when I do. I am so grateful for that… and this reminder.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
