Hello dear readers!
Today we are in Proverbs 12. I was SUPER distracted in my reading this morning for some reason, so it took a couple of read-throughs before I could finally focus. And then this one grabbed me:
Scripture: Proverbs 12:16
“A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult.”
Observation:
The smart one can hold his (or her) tongue (and face) in check when irritated and even slide by unruffled by an insult.
Application:
Be prudent. Don’t let insults and irritations get the best of you. Let them slide on by.
Y’all. WAAAAAYYYYYY too often I let things get under my skin that just do not belong there.
Insults hurt. Irritations irritate.
But if I keep my focus where it needs to be, I can improve my responses. I can honor myself and still overlook insults and annoyances in favor of more positive action (or sometimes no action at all).
Prayer:
Father God,
Thank you for enabling me to grow and learn how to make my way through uncomfortable and irritating experiences. Insults can hurt, and annoyances can be deep, but you are helping me learn how to respond in ways better than succumbing to the irritation. I want to be prudent. I don’t want to be sidetracked by evil. And you don’t want me to be, either.
Thank you for this reminder. Thank you for your kindness and continued love, even in the face of my mistakes and growth. Help me to extend that to those around me, too.
In Jesus. name, Amen.
